Children’s Ministry

Check out our children’s ministry blog!

The children’s ministry is a vital part of St. Peter’s.

The goal of our children’s ministry is to develop lifelong disciples of Jesus.  Its final testing ground will occur as the faithful believers that we are raising up hear from their Father, “Well done, My good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).

Our children’s ministry spans from birth through sixth grade.  We have a cohesive vision for imparting the fundamentals of Christian faith to the children as they progress through the program.

Children birth through age 2 are cared for in a loving and professional nursery environment.

Children ages 3 through pre-K 5 learn in the 10:00 Mustard Seeds class, where the emphasis is upon the nature of God, His revelation through Jesus Christ, and movement through the Holy Spirit.  These children learn about the big picture of the Bible.  They also learn the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostle’s Creed.

Children in kindergarten through 3rd grade learn basic biblical literacy in the 9:00 Sunday school hour, then have their own Kids’ Church worship service at 10 every Sunday–think of it as a chemistry class and lab.  Each week, they learn, then they try out their new understanding and deeper relationship with the Lord.

Children in 4th through 6th grades spend the 9:00 hour delving into Scripture with a book-by-book study of Scripture, learning to study and apply the Word of God personally and in community.  At 10:00, they are in the primary worship service except for the sermon and Prayers of the People, during which time they meet in their own small groups for learning and prayer.  The goal of this time in their development is to prepare them to be integrated as full worshippers in the church, fully grounded and deeply rooted to “worship in Spirit and in truth” (John 4:23).

We utilize Wednesday night teaching to do series studies (The Armor of God, Fruit of the Spirit, etc.) with the preschool age; all children K-6th grade meet together on Wednesday nights during the school year to learn about how to see the world as a Christian.  Summer programming and special events engage the children in worship, service, mission, and ministry.  Special services such as baptism and confirmation are offered and celebrated after appropriate preparation on behalf of the family and/ or child.
